Getting Married In Tuscany – When, Where & How

As a photographer who has lived in Florence, I had a special fondness of that city, or town, as some call it. (In terms of population it isn't massive, not a large city at all.)

In fact, I have a soft spot for much of the region.

Why Get Married in Florence?

The rolling hills. The beautiful scenery. The talkative culture. The Tuscan language. The good food. There's lots to be liked about the place.

It comes to no surprise, then, that many foreigners, especially English-speaking foreigners from the UK, Australia, and America, choose Tuscany as the destination of their next holiday.

Or even to get married there.

Yes, of course, there are other places that are highly sought after, such as Lake Como, Venice, Amalfi, and more, but - for some reason - this one seems to beat it for many of you.

It may be because of the reputation it has built over the years.

Or maybe it is because it is not as 'elite' as some places, like Como and people are more down to earth (while not lacking exclusivity, if that is what you are after).

Anyway, let's move on with Florence (& surroundings)

The city has an ambiance of elegance and sophistication that is unparalleled.

The stunning landscapes, breathtaking architecture with its rich history, and the delicious wine make it an ideal place for couples who want to have a memorable wedding experience.

Wedding Venues

Here are some of the locations that we have either been at, or heard of, and that would make for an amazing wedding venue.

Villa Pazzi al Parugiano

This estate on the hills of Tuscany, in Montemurlo, makes for a truly exclusive wedding, just like you have envisioned a wedding in "la bella vita" style.

Villa Pazzi al Parugiano is a picturesque Tuscan villa nestled in the rolling hills of Florence, Italy.

It is a romantic and charming location that offers a perfect backdrop for a fairytale wedding.

It is situated in an idyllic location that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The villa's gardens are beautifully landscaped, featuring lush greenery and vibrant flowers, creating a peaceful and romantic ambiance that is perfect for exchanging vows.

The villa is steeped in history and boasts a rich cultural heritage. It was built in the 15th century and has been restored to its former glory, maintaining its original architectural features, including frescoed ceilings and ornate fireplaces. The villa's historical charm and elegance make it an ideal setting for a truly unique and unforgettable wedding and wedding pictures.

Also, the local staff offers exceptional service and attention to detail. The villa is experienced in working with professionals to ensure that your special day is everything you've dreamed of and more.

Belmond Villa San Michele

Belmond Villa San Michele is a truly luxurious hotel located in a former monastery in the hills overlooking Florence.

This venue features a stunning terrace that offers panoramic views of the city, making it a perfect location for a romantic wedding ceremony.

The villa features classic Italian Renaissance architecture, with a façade covered in fragrant wisteria and a beautifully manicured Italian garden.

The interior is adorned with magnificent frescoes, antique furnishings, and fine art, creating a truly elegant and refined atmosphere.

The hotel also has a beautiful ballroom that can accommodate up to 100 guests for a reception.

Villa Medicea di Lilliano

Villa Medicea di Lilliano is a historic villa that dates back to the 13th century. The villa has been restored to its original grandeur and features beautiful gardens and courtyards that offer a perfect setting for a wedding ceremony.

The villa also has a magnificent ballroom that can accommodate up to 100 guests for a reception.

Castello di Vincigliata

Castello di Vincigliata is a medieval castle located just outside Florence. The castle features a stunning courtyard and gardens that offer a romantic and elegant setting for a wedding ceremony. The castle also has a spacious hall that can accommodate up to 200 guests for a reception.

Four Seasons Hotel Firenze

Generally speaking, I am not a big fan of 4S Hotels, but The Four Seasons Hotel Firenze is different. In modern cities, such as Sydney, they are very modern, dry, and often without personality and character.

Instead, this Four Seasons Hotel is a magnificent 15th-century palace that has been restored to its former glory. The hotel features beautiful gardens, courtyards, and ballrooms that offer a variety of settings for wedding ceremonies and receptions.

The hotel can accommodate up to 500 guests for a wedding reception and offers exceptional service and amenities.

One more:

Another beautiful location is a castle, located about an hour south of Florence in a town called Radda in Chianti.

If you're now thinking: "Chianti, I know that wine!", you're right. In fact, it is a great castle that goes by the name of Castello di Albola.

It is truly idyllic and offers a magical wedding experience because of its vineyards and hills all around, which offer a serene and peaceful atmosphere.

This castle, like most others, offers culture and history to be admired during the celebration, since it dates back much further than most others: right back to the 12th century!

You will be able to have an intimate wedding because of the isolated location, while also having a lavish reception, thanks to the ample space provided by the banquet halls.

If you have already booked a different venue for your wedding, make sure to book a lunch here and let them know that Maurizio, the photographer, sent you :)

Best Locations For Your Wedding Photos

All of the above venues offer amazing visuals for your intimate wedding photography.

However, if you want to make sure to also have pictures of the city of Florence itself, I wrote an article of our latest wedding taken in Florence and some locations that lend themselves very well to take beautiful photos.

When To Get Married In Florence

The best time to get married in Florence is during the spring and autumn seasons. The months spanning from April to May and from September to November offer mild temperatures, which make it easier on yourselves and the guests during the ceremony and subsequent party at the reception.

It also reduces the stress of high-season crowds, should you desire to do some sightseeing before or after the wedding day.

The months of May, June, September, and October are ideal for outdoor weddings in Florence, as they offer sunny and warm weather without the intense heat of the summer. However, keep in mind that these months are also the most popular and can be more expensive than other times of the year.
